Continuing body proportions, I purposefully left out Fashion Proportions. They are quite different from normal proportions so it's good to be aware of the norm/ideal first.
Fashion proportions are way different than normal, even ideal proportions. They are exaggerated.
Fashion Figures are...
- Long and Lean
- Unrealistic lengths in legs, arms and torsos in female bodies (a little more realistic in male and children bodies)
As I posted in
http://tiffanifashionbeauty.blogspot.ca/2013/07/body-proportions.html adult bodies are seven to eight head lengths but as you increase the head length, you create more exaggerated proportions -- like what fashion proportions are supposed to be.
FASHION PROPORTIONS
- 10 to 11 head counts long!!! (rule of 11 heads is a good rule of thumb)
- The small head in relation to the body lengthens the arms and legs in a graceful way. It may be the same length or even shorter than a normal proportioned body, but it looks longer.
- Models are tall. It's hard to get an ideal proportion at maxed height (with a reasonable sized head)

DIFFERENCES BETWEEN FEMALE AND MALE FASHION PROPORTIONS
- Men are generally taller and broader than females BUT their proportions are about the same.
- Not so in the larger than life fashion world, things are more complicated.
- Although both are 11 heads tall, the distribution is different.
- Women's legs are longer. Men's torsos are longer.
HEAD COUNTS
FEMALE
- Head: 1
- Upper Torso and Neck: 2 <- different than men
- Lower Torso: 1
- Upper Legs (above the knee): 3 <- different than men
- Lower Legs and Feet: 4
- TOTAL = 11
MALE
- Head: 1
- Upper Torso and Neck: 3 <- different than women
- Lower Torso: 1
- Upper Legs (above the knee): 2 <- different than women
- Lower Legs and Feet: 4
- TOTAL = 11
CHILDREN
- Their facial features are like adults, but their body proportions (including head size and neck length) are completely different.
- At years 10 and older, they grow into more adult like proportions.
 |
| Smaller 5 head counts |
Basics
- 5 head count
- Don't have long, lean body lines e.g. a long neck
- Stay clear of long, lean and mean lines
CHILD
- The head 1
- The upper torso and neck 1
- The lower torso 1
- The upper legs (above the knee) 1
- The lower legs and feet 1
- TOTAL = 5
OTHER PROPORTIONS - NINE HEAD
- 9 Head is also an option. Somewhat less exaggerated, and more aligned with a heroic look.

Here's a 12x12 grid (right click and save it to your computer, then upload it into SL -- temp if you don't want to pay the 10L) you can use to measure (rez a prim cube, add this texture to it, rez a pose stand and stand on it. then pull the height of the prim until your head is inside a grid square. Finally copy the height of the prim and paste it into the width of the prim so you get squares. After you adjust your size you will probably stretch out of the squares, so adjust the prim again to measure):
Here I am doing this on the fly.. it's not perfect yet but some things I've had to adjust:
Head > Head Size
Body > Height
Torso > Breast Buoyancy
Torso > Arm Length (very limited range in SL)
Torso > Torso Length
Legs > Leg Length
etc.
